Technical Support Information

The IP Code, International Protection Marking, IEC standard 60529, sometimes interpreted as Ingress Protection Marking,[1] classifies and rates the degree of protection provided against intrusion (body parts such as hands and fingers), dust, accidental contact, and water by electrical housings and products.

All mySmart sensors have an IP rating, with most being IP40. An IP40 rating means that the sensors are protected against solid objects down to 1mm and they have no protection against water and other liquids.

There are sensors within the range which have IP55, IP65 or IP66 ratings. It should noted that some of the IP55 sensors require the use of a supplied gasket to maintain their rating.

An IP55 rating means that sensors are protected against dust and against low pressure jets of water from all directions.

The IP66 rating means that sensors are totally protected against dust and are able to withstand low pressure jets of water.

mySmartSensors which have a higher IP rating include; EBDSPIR-IP (IP55), EBMPIR-MB (IP65), Minus 30 range (IP65) and EBDHS-MB (IP65) and MWS1A-IP (IP66)

IP (Ingress Protection) Ratings
Level of protection against solid objects, materials or dust        Level of protection against water and other liquids
0  No protection 0  No protection
1  Protected against solid objects down to 50 mm 1  Protected against vertically falling drops of water (e.g. condensation)
2  Protected against solid objects down to 12 mm 2  Protected against direct sprays of water up to 15 degrees from vertical
3  Protected against solid objects down to 2.5 mm 3  Protection against direct sprays of water upto 60  degrees from vertical
4  Protected against solid objects down to 1 mm 4  Protection against water sprayed from all directions -  limited ingress permitted
5  Protected against dust, limited ingress (no harmful deposits) 5  Protection against low pressure jets of water from all  directions - limited ingress permitted
6  Totally protected against dust 6  Protection against low pressure jets of water, limited  ingress permitted (e.g. ship deck)
7  Protected against the effect of immersion between 6  in. / 15 cm and 3 ft / 1m
8  Protected against long periods of immersion under  pressure
